Mishibizhiw and Nimkii Binesi (Underwater Panther and the Thunderbird) Fox Fur Story
Mishibizhiw and Nimkii Binesi (Underwater Panther and the Thunderbird) Fox Fur Story
This vintage fox fur shawl was purchased at a thrift shop and repurposed into this story board, which depicts the ancient Ojibwe mythology of Mishibizhiw (the Underwater Panther) fighting the Nimkii Binesi (Thunderbird). The images are inspired by the Anishnaabe pictographs in the Ontario region. The two canoes are also inspired by traditional Anishnaabe art. The energy lines and shields reflect the protection and connection of all living things. Hand painted onto deer hide purchased at the Rama Pow Wow. Features felt cut outs, turquoise beads, mother of pearl, 24k gold beads, labradorite, birch bark, rose quartz, seed beads, a stone arrowhead, abalone shell, and lapis lazuli. 39" x 6"
